“I came to this workshop as a result of repeatedly starting and stopping a journaling practice and with a desire to learn how to sustain it over the long haul. At the completion of your workshop, not only do I have a solid foundation of a month's worth of entries in my journal, I have a full toolbox to help me keep it fun and interesting for years to come. What appealed to me is the idea of using my journal as a "living document". Also helpful is the monthly group which provides a sense of accountability and additional motivation. Thanks again for the most enjoyable experience and for sharing what works!”

-Karin D., New Jersey

“Thanks for guiding us through this class. It's exactly what I had in mind - about establishing the practice because I'm not at a loss of what to write.”

- Luis M., CA

“The four week journaling sessions with John were very inspiring as well as practical. John gives great suggestions for writing and for sticking with the practice. The participants have plenty of opportunity to share their thoughts and to ask questions. Also, the atmosphere is very friendly and supportive. I plan to keep on journaling!”

“John Casey brings structure to the resilience-building practice of journaling. Through this structure, John enhances opportunities for creativity. Additionally, I picked up numerous ideas for how to rejuvenate the practice after a long hiatus. I highly recommend this four-session course.”

“Since the end of my cancer treatments and the beginning of the pandemic, I have participated in dozens of classes, workshops, support, and social groups. Out of all of them, Johns workshop has given me the most benefits long term. I am so glad that I was able to participate and learn skills from John that will not only increase my writing on a daily basis, but creative ways to journal that has given me new avenues for self-discovery. I’m so grateful that John has given me the tools to happily journal for the rest of my life.”

Alexis W., DC

“The biggest takeaway for me has been a consistent return to my habit of daily journaling (which was my hope for the workshop). I don’t do it so much to log or keep track of things but to explore and clarify my emotions, and that process is more important than ever in the middle of the chaos of our current reality.”

- Luke J.

“John's Sustainable Journaling workshop exceeded my expectations! As the Cancer Support Program Director at Smith Center for Healing and the Arts, I strive to offer transformative and healing programs for the cancer community. John offered a safe space for people to explore, share, and implement a new useful healing tool. John's excitement to share what he's learned about the benefits of journaling brings an energy to his workshops that draws you in and motivates you to make writing an everyday practice. I learned creative ways of journaling I had never thought of before from John and all of the participants. We learned, we shared, we grew! Thanks John Casey! I can't wait to have you back!”

- Kiersten Gallagher, Cancer Support Program Director, Smith Center for Healing and the Arts

“Hey John..... thanks so much for the past 4 weeks of the journaling workshop. You really helped me to make it easy and simple. The tools you suggested, the easy recommendations of just doing an entry and then go from there, makes it so doable. I started the year off journaling everyday. Of course if is only 1/03/2021. But I will do my best to enjoy the process and not be hard on myself when I skip some days because of life getting in the way. Thanks again John. You were so attentive to all of us in the group. And so encouraging and positive. Have a great New Year John.”

- Karen Y., NJ

"I have never consistently kept a journal. I jumped into this without much thought or planning. I was surprised to discover how easy it was to get going with it. I use my phone to journal at different times in the day. Instead of checking facebook or nervously using my phone as a way to fill up quiet time when waiting in line at the grocery store or post office, I now chose to engage in some thoughtful self-reflection. Some days it’s simply a sentence or two about a fleeting moment that captured my attention. Other days I skip or forget and come back to it the next day. I notice and observe things more closely and it has brought a deeper sense of intention and self-reflection into my life. Thank you John."

“John Casey's well-structured, informed, and practical on-line Sustainable Journalling course gave me the tools and support I needed to return to journaling after years of floundering. He brings with him fresh ideas, a positive outlook, and years of experience. As an on-line presenter he engages everyone in the Zoom. As a result, the course became the highlight of my week!”

- Peterson Toscano, performance artist and podcast producer

“Sustainable Journaling was a valuable investment of time for me. John provides a comfortable space to explore the topic and just enough guidance to help participants consider all the options for personal journaling. His coaching and listening style reflect the kind of genuine interest that helped to both free and motivate me to experiment and discover a journaling practice that I really could sustain. I am especially grateful for all of this!”

“I have been wanting to make journaling a regular practice for a very long time, but could never stick to it. John’s method made writing a little every day seem doable and easy, and the follow-up sessions really helped to keep me feeling accountable. Now the daily writing (sometimes just a little, sometimes a lot) has become a habit that I don’t think too much about, and it’s been such a useful tool for me, for all the reasons I had heard journaling could be useful!”

- Laura D., NY

“I didn’t know I needed John Casey’s permission and encouragement to journal, but having it has helped me wrote consistently for the last month and counting. The longest I’ve ever kept it up before was a few days.”

- Leah R., NY

“I had been considering starting to journal again for a while when I decided to sign up for Sustainable Journaling with John. What I liked most about the program was the encouragement and accountability that John provided. It was also helpful to learn that missing days of journaling didn’t mean I was a total journaling failure. John provided me with great tips to sustain my journaling practice even on busier days or missed days. For instance, it’s always ok to go back and write retroactively for a day I missed. Now, journaling has become a wonderful way for me to practice self-care and reflection.”
